Incredible Danxia Landforms - Colorful Chinese Mountains

The Danxia landforms are incredible landscapes found in southeast and southwest China that consist of a red bed characterized by steep cliffs. These incredible landscapes are extremely colorful and look as if they have been painted by an artist. The artist was in party mood and painted the landscape in different hues of red to match the glorious rays of the Sun in southeast and southwest China. The landform is a unique type of petrographic geomorphology which is found only in China which consists of red-colored sandstones and conglomerates of largely Cretaceous age.

The Danxia landforms contains rare and unique landscapes with outstanding scientific and aesthetic value. The entire terrain classified as the Danxia landform by the scientists due to the topography of the area really looks like a painted picture with its tiers of red rocks and cliffs. Formed of layers of reddish sandstone, the terrain has over time been eroded into a series of mountains surrounded by curvaceous cliffs and unusual rock formations.

The Danxia landforms is named after Mount Danxia, one of the most famous examples of the Danxia landform, located in Renhua County of Guangdong Province. The China Danxia Landform was included in the World Heritage List in 2010. The site covers a range of six landscapes in southern China. Mount Daxia in Guangdong is the most famous of these six incredible landscapes.
