There is speculation Bugatti Automobiles is developing a second model of the Bugatti Veyron supercar that is estimated to cost a whopping 3 million US Dollars! I even saw some referring this new Bugatti Veyron as the most expensive car in the world. But is it really the most expensive car in the world? If not which car is the world's most expensive car?
The US$ 1.5 million Bugatti Veyron
I remember when it came out some sites and papers were saying the current Bugatti Veyron which is US$1.5 million was the world's most expensive car. At that price Bugatti Veyron is certainly one of the most expensive cars (its the fastest accelerating and most powerful street going car in the world) but it is another Bugatti that seems to be most expensive car ever.

Bugati Veyron Fastest accelerating and most powerful street going car in the world
According to what I could find from a little searching the real most expensive car in the world is this 1930 Bugatti Type 41 Royale!

1930 Bugatti Type 41 Royale

The Interior of the Bugatti Type 41 Royale
The Type 41 Royale was Bugatti's most outrageous car. It was also his most exclusive, as only six were ever manufactured. Each had considerable presence due their massive length, 12 litre engine and huge wheels.Image credit supercars.net** and Flickr
One of the most expensive cars in the world is the Type 41 Coupe de Ville Napoleon. It was the first Royale made, and was Ettore Bugatti's personal transportation. It eventually ended up with the Schlumpf brothers, and still resides in their Mulhouse Museum.
The Kellener-bodied Royale still holds the world record for fetching $8 700 000 USD at Christie's Auction in 1983. When adjusted for inflation, this price would be over 16 million, a price which only other Royales, or the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, could eclipse - Source: supercars.net
But I find it difficult to say which is really the most expensive car in the world. Do you judge the cars value by its selling price as a antique item or the off-the-shelf price?

The production cost of the Veyron is several times its sale price. Royale is just a vintage car with an inflated price due to its rarity.
The Veyron is the world's most expensive production car. The Royale is no longer in production.
As far as I know, the only upcoming version of the Veyron is the Pur Sang, which is in its unpainted aluminium and carbon skin.
Justmal,
yeah, I also read the Veyron is several times its sale price. But why are they selling the car at a reduced price?
Blacklightarrow,
The new Veyron track car is only a rumour. I read somewhere the project was originally due for release next year, but the project has been put on hold for now. It's said it's developed under the codename ‘Project Lydia’ after Ettore Bugatti’s wife and it would exceed 400 km/h.
Yes, the Bugati Royale is the most expensive car. Here is the Forbe's article from about this.
http://www.forbes.com/2001/11/05/1105vow.html
But this blog post says a racing car commissioned by Hitler was expected to become the most expensive car.
Most expensive car sold on auction will be Hitler's racing car
http://planetgonecrazy.blogspot.com/2006/12/most-expensive-car-sold-on-auction-will.html
Regardless of what the answer may be to that question, the post opened a whole new world to me of people willing to buy a mere means of transportation for a whopping 3 million US$!!
I am also curious about whether such cars are ever seen on roads that ordinary men and women travel. Also, how much mileage does a car like that give... can't be environmentally friendly if it's an antique, however, given that one is spending that kind of money to have it, the car better be a model vehicle, gas emissions and all.
Anonymous,
Thanks you very much for posting those links here. They are very interesting.
The Forbes article says the Bugati Royale is the most expensive car in the world. But it's strange the Forbes article doesn't say anything about the Royale's 1983 sale for 8 million. All it say is "The car sold for a record £5.5 million at London's Royal Albert Hall before an audience of 4,000 enthusiasts. Now the present anonymous owner--believed to be Japanese--has commissioned Bonham & Brooks in London to offer the Bugatti Royale for resale to anyone willing to pay the asking price." I wonder how the auction went.
The same about the Hitler's racing car. That blog post about Hitlers car becoming the most expensive car is also written based on a pre-auction hype.
Id it is,
Yes wealthy playboys, celebrities and businessmen use these outrageously expensive cars on normal roads. Here is a very interesting article I just found. Top 10 Most Expensive Car Crashes of All Time. It features some of the most expensive cars (mostly Formula 1 type sport cars) that were driven by welthy people on normal roads and met with accidents.
Also here is a article about the Bugatti Vayran car accident that happened last year in a normal road in UK. Bugatti Veyron in world's most expensive crash in uk Times
"The £830,000 supercar, which Times columnist Jeremy Clarkson memorably described last year as being “as fast as a Hawker Hurricane” was travelling in the wet at speeds in the region of 100mph along a 40mph stretch of the B375 near Chertsey, Surrey when the driver lost control and collided with a Vauxhall Astra before ploughing into a 3ft bank.
The passenger of the Vauxhall was a pregnant woman who has since been released from hospital after tests. "
I Like Bugatti Veyron, the color soo exotic :)
Hi Travel Paradise
Most of the Bugati Veyron's I've seen has that horrible black and red colours of the first pic. I don't like that color combination. But the second one the light blue and grey combination is great. It's very attractive. I love it.
Hey Id it is,
I have missed to answer part of your query. The Bugatti Veyron and other similar cars like Ferrari, Macleren etc. are meant to be the most outrageous, expensive, oil guzzlings, sexy, machines out there. They are environmentally friendly as a smoking, polluting factory can be.
I've not heard about the mileage of the bugatti's, but I imagine it will guzzle as much oil as 10 normal cars.
The whole specs and details of the car is there in the wikipedia article - Bugati Veyron
It's not for nothing, it's the most expensive car in the world. Sad but then again... :)
I think that I have also seen that artical on the most expensive car crashes. What were they thinking!
zstorez
Probably I'm driving this sexy car :)
I hear it happened while the owners brother was taking it for a spin only a week after getting the car after waiting in the vayron list for months! It's a shame.
The reason the sal cost is a lot less than its production cost (not just materials and labour but the design and development stage too) is that this was also a training xcercise for bugatti (owned by VW). The fact that it is insanely famous and the VW name is linked to it, is a big bonus too.
This is just what Top gear tells me, and what i assume aswell lol
Hi Joel Ward
I didn't know that. thanks for sharing it here. I would like to see that article you refer in top gear.

Hi Eranda,
Nice to see you here machan, check your email, I sent your a mail.
This is not true. Yes the Bugatti Veyron is the most expensive "production car" but the real most expensive car is a 20 MILLION dollar Mercedes-Benz because the entire car is encrested in diamonds.
Austin,
A 20 million dollar worth diamond encrusted Mercedes-Benz! Then that should be the world's most expensive car. that should be a very interesting car. where can I find more information about this mercades benz?
none of this is up to date... the most expensive production car in the world is currently a Maybach which is set at a base price of $8 million dollars and only a very limited amount of cars are going to be made (by the way almost all of them are spoken for by rich Arab Muslims from Dubai, and the rest of UAE). The most expensive car ever sold was a Ferrari 1961 250 GT Spyder California which sold for $10.976.000 dollars, followed by an useless Bugatti from 1928 which only had one model produced ever (driven and owned only by Bugatti himself, which makes this car just a prototype). The next car to look out for at the 3rd place was a Ferrari Testarossa 1962 330 TRI/LM, not surprisingly again at a price of $9.3 million. It's important to notice that it's not the money that buys performance in the 21ST century but a reasonable knowledgeable buyer that know his shit (pardon my french)!!!
fffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk the bugatti something royale it's ggggggggggggggggggggggggggaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy bugatti veyron is better.
The 1930 Bugatti Type 41 Royale price is still a controversial topic of conversation.

There are all expensive but amazingly beautiful as well!
Well, for a car like this, you don't need money only for buying it, but also for supporting it. The oil price can influence afterwards your pocket or savings big way!
is it really worth it? 1.5 million? I think i'l just buy a Lambo and a ferrari...
