Warning: Dangerous side effects from common Paracetamol Tablets

Paracetamol Tablets, that are also known as acetaminophen in the United States and in some other parts of the world, are a widely used pain relieving and fever reducing drug. The paracetamol tablets are used to cure minor aches and pain related to common cold, flu, toothaches, arthritis, menstrual cramps and other conditions. It is generally used by people who are sensitive or allergic to aspirin. However, Paracetamol tablets used in excess can prove fatal due to its many side effects some of which are very dangerous leading to failure of liver and kidney and ultimately to death.

Side Effects of Paracetamol Tablet

  • High dose-usage (greater than 2,000 mg per day) of paracetamol increases the risk of upper gastrointestinal complications like stomach bleeding.
  • Heavy use of paracetamol (300 grams a year or 1 g per day on average) can lead to a condition known as 'Small Indented and Calcified Kidneys' (SICK).
  • Administering paracetamol for fever in the first year of life can lead to an increase in the incidence of asthmatic symptoms and an increased incidence of rhinoconjunctivitis and eczema at 6–7 years.
  • Paracetamol used excessively damages multiple organs, particularly the liver and kidney where toxicity from paracetamol is not from the drug itself but from one of its metabolites.
  • Paracetamol toxicity is the most common cause of acute liver failure. This is one of the most dangerous side effects of paracetamol.
  • Habitual use of paracetamol leads to decrease in threshold for pain in a person. This means that the endurance level for pain reduces in that person.

As paracetamol is a pain killer, the more paracetamol you take, the lesser would be your threshold for pain (your endurance level for pain). If you have a very high intake of paracetamol throughout your life (Migraine, Menstrual cramps ) it is very likely that normal general anesthetic will have no effects on you as your body is Pumped full with paracetamol and your body is so used to pain killer that you would need a much stronger pain killer, Morphine?

Value your health, value your life, THINK TWICE before you easily pop that familiar pill into your mouth again. I think paracetamol has had it's toll on me too. When I was a teen taking one paracetamol tablet was enough to stop a cold or a bad headache but now I need two!

Actually for most occasions we take paracetamol, we don't really need to. For example like the headaches you get sometimes after a long journey or traffic jam in a hot day etc. I've noticed they just go away if I can forget them.
